Local Trail Bands PDF Print E-mail

West Cumbria is home to a great deal of musical talent and we have chosen some of the best local bands to entertain both locals and visitors. These bands play everything from blues and rock to indie and pop, and you can see them at The Wave, Grasslot Club and the very popular open-air Calor Gas Stage on Shipping Brow. Read all about them here and check the trail timetable in the programme (on sale in early July) to find out when and where they will be appearing.

AWOL PDF Print E-mail
Based in Maryport, with a big local following, AWOL are a three-piece band that play classic rock with a bluesy edge. They met at school, formed a band in 2002 and have been playing gigs round the county ever since. They have appeared at Maryport Blues Festival for the last six years. Other highlights include playing at Silloth Beer Festival twice – once supporting The Animals. Their proudest moment was when AC/DC singer Brian Johnson saw one of their gigs and said they were 'awesome'. Their set includes covers of songs like 'Sweet Home Alabama', 'Little Wing' and 'Whiskey in the Jar' as well as some of their own compositions.

AWOL are Matty Penn on bass and lead vocals; Dean Newton on lead and rhythm guitar and lead vocals; and Stephen Jackson on drums and backing vocals.

In a late change to the Trail schedule, AWOL will be playing at The Wave at 10.30pm on Sunday night.
